Overview of dental implant treatment options for missing or failing teeth

Why Explore Your Treatment Options?

Understanding your choices is the first step toward rebuilding your smile with confidence. Many patients are surprised to learn that they qualify for more treatment options than they expected. With today’s technology, imaging, and advanced surgical techniques, solutions exist for patients with missing teeth, failing restorations, gum issues, or bone loss.

Common reasons patients seek treatment options include:

  • Missing one or multiple teeth
  • Cracked, fractured, or failing teeth
  • Old bridges or dentures that no longer fit comfortably
  • Difficulty chewing or speaking due to missing teeth
  • Bone loss or changes in facial structure
  • Desire for a long-term replacement, not a temporary fix

Whether your priority is stability, function, comfort, aesthetics, or all of the above, there is a solution available.

Option 1: Single Dental Implants

A single dental implant replaces an individual missing tooth with a titanium post and a custom crown. This option looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth without affecting neighboring teeth. Single implants are ideal for patients who want a long-lasting replacement that preserves jawbone health and maintains the integrity of nearby teeth.

Benefits:

  • Missing one or multiple teeth
  • Cracked, fractured, or failing teeth
  • Old bridges or dentures that no longer fit comfortably
  • Difficulty chewing or speaking due to missing teeth
  • Bone loss or changes in facial structure
  • Desire for a long-term replacement, not a temporary fix

Option 2: Implant Bridges

For patients missing several teeth in a row, implant-supported bridges offer a stable, long-lasting option. Instead of relying on natural teeth for support, these bridges attach to dental implants for strength and durability.

Best for patients who:

  • Have multiple missing teeth in one area
  • Want to avoid removable appliances
  • Prefer a permanent, fixed solution

Option 3: Full Mouth Implants

Full mouth implants replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw using a set number of implant posts to support a fixed restoration. This treatment is ideal for patients who want a secure alternative to dentures, improved chewing power, and a restoration that looks and feels natural.

What this option provides:

  • A full set of stable, permanent teeth
  • No slipping, adhesives, or sore spots
  • Improved speech, function, and appearance
  • Better support for facial structure and bone retention

Option 4: Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures combine the affordability of dentures with the stability of implants. These solutions “snap” into place or attach for increased security while still being removable for cleaning.

A great option for patients who:

  • Want more stability than traditional dentures
  • Prefer a removable restoration
  • Need a cost-effective step toward full implant treatment

Option 5: Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures remain a treatment option for individuals who are not ready for implants or prefer a removable appliance. While not supported by implants, they can restore appearance and basic function.

This may be best for patients who:

  • Want a temporary or transitional solution
  • Are not currently candidates for implants without preparation
  • Prefer a removable option for personal or medical reasons

Option 6: Tooth Extractions and Socket Preservation

Severely damaged, infected, or unsalvageable teeth may require extraction. Many patients choose socket preservation afterward to help maintain bone volume for future implants. This procedure protects the jawbone and prepares the site for later restorative care.

Option 7: Bone and Soft Tissue Grafting

For patients who have experienced bone loss or gum recession, grafting procedures rebuild support for future treatment. These procedures strengthen the jawbone, improve implant success, and restore healthy soft tissue.

Best for patients who:

  • Have been missing teeth for an extended time
  • Need more jaw support for implants
  • Want to protect gum health and oral structure

Dental implant consultation to determine the best tooth replacement option

Which Option Is Right for You?

The best treatment depends on your health, goals, lifestyle, and long-term expectations. Factors considered during planning include bone density, number of missing teeth, gum health, facial structure, and medical history. A consultation with digital imaging allows our oral surgery team to evaluate your needs and recommend the strongest path forward.
